RIck Kammen teaching at federal defender training

Nationally renowned criminal defense attorney Rick Kammen will teach a course on Friday, June 10, about the uses of social media in litigation as part of a national training course for other federal attorneys. The course will take place at 3 p.m. at the Hilton Downtown in Indianapolis.

Kammen, whose practice is based in Indianapolis but who is known nationally for his death penalty defense work, said lawyers need to be keenly aware of the risks and rewards of social media - both in and out of the courtroom.

"As we've all seen in the last 10 days with the Rep. Weiner story, social media can be a game-changer," Kammen said. "That's especially true in the courtroom where a quick status update or tweet can become evidence against a client."

Kammen's session is part of the three-day "Winning Strategies" conference hosted by the Office of Defender Services of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, which provides substantial training and other resource support to Federal Defender Organization staff and Criminal Justice Act panel attorneys.
