Police investigate three violent robberies in NW Indianapolis

On Behalf of | Aug 25, 2017 | Criminal Defense |

Indianapolis police are investigating three armed robberies that occurred in two apartment complexes in northwest Indianapolis on Tuesday, August 15, 2017. The violent nature of the three crimes and their geographic and chronological proximity have led police to tentatively conclude that the same persons committed all three robberies.

According to police, the robberies all occurred between 2:30 and 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 15. The victims resided in the Watergate Mall North and Candletree Court apartment buildings. The perpetrators reportedly stole cash, credit cards and, in some cases, cell phones and jewelry. Police said some of the victims were pistol-whipped by the perpetrators. All victims told police that the perpetrators were black males in their twenties. After completing a robbery, the three men reportedly jumped into a car and sped away.

Another victim was assaulted in the parking lot of one of the apartment buildings. He said that “two guys” with guns came out of nowhere. The suspects took the man’s wallet, backpack, cellphone and personal items. This victim also told police that he saw the two men assault a woman in her car. If this account proves to be true, a total of four men were involved in the robberies. Police are concentrating their investigation on determining if the suspects were the same in each robbery.

The suspects in this case may face serious criminal charges if they are arrested and prosecuted. They are entitled to be presumed innocent unless they are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Nevertheless, anyone facing similar charges may wish to consult an experienced criminal defense attorney for an analysis of the law and evidence that will control the case and for an estimate of the likelihood of obtaining a favorable plea agreement or outright acquittal.
