Road rage is a pernicious plague on the streets of Indianapolis. Incidents range from angry gestures or horn honking to physical assault to the occasional incident involving a firearm. Late in the evening of February 1, police believe that a road rage incident evolved into a violent crime that resulted in the wounding of an Uber driver.
According to Indianapolis police, the incident began at about 11:00 p.m. near the North Side intersection of 46th and Evanston. Investigators have alleged that an Uber driver was cut off by the driver of a black Dodge Charger. The driver of the Dodge then allegedly pulled even with the Uber automobile and fired several shots. At least one of the shots struck the Uber driver in his left side. He was able to drive himself to a nearby fire station, where he called 911. He was conscious and alert when he was taken to Eskenazi Hospital.
Many details about the incident are unknown. The identity of the driver of the Dodge Charger is unknown. Police do not know if the Uber had any passengers when the incident occurred or whether anyone other than the driver was in the Dodge Charger.
If the alleged shooter is apprehended, they will face a number of serious criminal charges, including assault with a firearm, attempted murder and reckless driving.
