Sex Offender Registration In Indiana

When you are convicted of a sex crime, whether the conviction was handed down by an Indiana judge or by a court in another state, you may be required to register as a sex offender. The sex offender registry may restrict where you can live or the type of employment you obtain. Registrants can be subjected to additional requirements or risk criminal consequences.

The length of your registration requirement will differ based on your conviction and possibly on a determination as to whether you are designated a “sexually violent predator” (SVP). This determination, among others, could impact whether you are required to register for 10 years or for life.

Changes To The Law

The requirement for lifetime registration can create major problems for those offenders whose registry window would have closed under the old law but have been prolonged because of new legislation. At Kammen & Moudy, LLC, we understand how frustrating this can be and that you may have more questions now than you did before.

Using case law and our more than 50 years of combined legal experience and, depending on the individual’s situation, the attorneys at our firm may be able to file a petition requesting that a lifetime registration requirement be amended.
